Cost

The amount of Gold required to upgrade an item increases as the item is upgraded to the next level.
An upgraded item will also come with increased stats, which can boost its performance in many ways. This includes increasing the power of its attack, critical strike chance, or damage per second. Additionally an upgraded item might be able to give additional bonuses to its equipped unit. These upgrades can be used for a variety of reasons for example, to increase the overall power of an individual or group unit. They also can affect the overall the gameplay.
The items can be upgraded at any item upgrader NPC in the game. These NPCs are located in major questing areas or capital cities. You can also find upgrades for items by visiting dungeons that have high-level bosses. You can also talk to NPCs in garrisons of your faction.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to upgrade the level of weapons, armor and trinkets. Some upgraded items can only be rerolled if the initial item was Unique Epic, Rare or Rare. Black Lion Salvage or Ascended Salvage offer a salvage kit which allows you to recover all or part of the upgrade components. This does not apply to legendary equipment or upgrades that can be recovered with an Upgrade extractor or by returning the item to the Karma retailer.
Rewards
The upgrading of items provides players with currency and a range of items. Each upgrade also has a chance of granting an random stat bonus. Upgrade components can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an attribute bonus or additional effect while the equipment is being used. Some upgrade components also have cosmetic effects. Players can obtain upgrade components by crafting, buying from vendors, or at the Trading Post, looting, or obtaining a reward. Additionally players can retrieve upgraded items by using an Upgrade Extractor or by salvaging them using a top-quality salvage kit. Glyphs, which are placed in tools for gathering can be exchanged without restriction.
By selecting the item and pressing the green button, which has an arrow that rerolls, a player can roll it into an upgradeable item. This alters the layout of the item's window, and allow players to choose up to six items to "recycle". The item that is recycled will be exchanged for an item at level 1 of the same kind. Recycled items don't keep their current level or amount of resources used to upgrade them.
The maximum upgrade level of an item is determined by the item's tier and its quality.
